Project overview
Implemented in collaboration with HarvestPlus, CIAT-CGIAR, Aggregator Trust, and leading academic institutions, the study employs a randomized controlled trial to assess how guaranteed markets, improved inputs, and contract farming arrangements influence agricultural productivity, technology adoption, household income, and food security.
The research examines whether biofortified crops can simultaneously address nutritional deficiencies and improve farmers' economic outcomes by strengthening market access and encouraging investment in improved agricultural technologies. The study also explores the potential of contract farming to promote sustainable agricultural commercialization and strengthen inclusive value chains.
Research impact
The findings provide rigorous evidence on the effectiveness of contract farming as a strategy for increasing agricultural productivity, improving household nutrition, and expanding market opportunities for smallholder farmers. The research supports efforts to scale biofortified crops and informs policies that promote inclusive and sustainable agricultural development across Africa.
