Fieldwork and research activities for Impact of Urban Flooding on Businesses in Kampala

Project overview

Combining administrative tax records with detailed firm-level survey data, the study examines both the direct impacts of flooding on businesses and the indirect effects transmitted through customer, supplier, and transport networks. Particular attention is given to understanding why some firms demonstrate greater resilience than others and how vulnerability varies across sectors, locations, and business characteristics. The research documents firms' exposure to flood risks, the operational disruptions they experience, and the strategies they adopt to maintain business continuity. By examining how climate-related shocks influence enterprise performance and urban economic activity, the study contributes to a better understanding of climate resilience within rapidly growing cities.

Research impact

The project provides valuable evidence to support climate adaptation, urban resilience, and infrastructure planning. Its findings inform investments and policies aimed at strengthening the resilience of businesses, supply chains, and urban economies facing increasing climate-related risks.
