Project overview

Rather than relying solely on generalized recommendations, the project trains farmers to conduct simple, structured experiments on their own farms to compare different combinations of seeds, fertilizers, and crop management practices under local conditions.

Implemented with 960 farmers across 120 villages in the districts of Manafwa, Mbale, and Tororo, the study evaluates both the agricultural and behavioural impacts of farmer-led experimentation. By comparing farmers who receive EASE training with those who receive agricultural inputs alone, the research assesses whether structured experimentation improves productivity, encourages technology adoption, and strengthens farmers' capacity to adapt to changing climatic conditions.

Research impact

The project provides important evidence on innovative approaches to agricultural extension and farmer learning. Its findings support policies and programmes that promote climate-smart agriculture, improve food security, strengthen farmer self-reliance, and encourage sustainable agricultural development.
