Project overview
Using a randomized controlled trial with private firms, the study evaluates whether structured job needs assessments and improved job descriptions enable employers to attract stronger applicant pools and make more effective hiring decisions for university graduates.
The research examines how clearly defining job requirements before or after advertising vacancies influences recruitment outcomes, employee retention, job satisfaction, and workplace productivity. By focusing on employers' hiring decisions, the study addresses important labour market challenges where graduate unemployment coexists with persistent difficulties in recruiting appropriately skilled workers.
Research impact
The study provides valuable evidence on improving recruitment practices within Uganda's growing private sector. Its findings will inform employer hiring strategies, labour market policies, and workforce development initiatives aimed at strengthening graduate employment, improving job matching, and supporting the growth of high-potential industries.
